Welcome!

Mary Yost

Volunteer. Leader. Mentor.
Creative Thinker. Optimist.

These are just a few of the words I use to describe my character. My volunteer and leadership experiences have shaped me and provided me with direction for my life. I hope to combine my journalism and nonviolence studies skills to bring positive social change to our community and the world.

I am interested in writing and advocacy work for non-profit organizations, especially organizations that focus on addressing the needs of people experiencing homelessness. This interest was sparked by my editorial internship position at Street Sense, Washington, D.C.’s street newspaper, in summer 2010. I took the skills I gained from this experience to Greensboro, North Carolina, by creating The Greensboro Voice, a monthly newspaper about homelessness and poverty. After graduating from Elon University in May 2012, I carried this passion with me to Denver, Colorado where I served in AmeriCorps for two years at Urban Peak, a nonprofit organization that serves youth ages 15 through 24 who are experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of becoming homeless.

On this website you will find samples of my writing and examples of my leadership experience. Thank you for taking the time to read my work—I love sharing my passion with the community! Also, attached is my resume if you are interested in learning more about my professional experience.

I hope you have a beautiful day!
